Went for a school cultural trip during our Spring break, about 3 weeks ago! We didn't manage to join any school trips last semester, hence we were very enthusiastic in joining this cultural trip haha.
It was a good chance for us to know more about the Indigenous people living in Taiwan and to take a break from the city area full of financial buildings, shopping centres to a more rural place with its rich cultural background.
It was a trip down to Sandimen township, Pingtung, approximately an hour plus bus journey from Kaohsiung. Our first stop was at a Shatao Glass bead workshop where we had a hands-on experience to DIY our glass beads.
Every bead has a meaning behind it and they believe that by wearing these beads, it can help them to ward off evil, bring them fortune, good health, wisdom...
We were all brought to their workshop and each assigned to a "mentor" to guide us in the process, they were of cos, very skilled!
My japanese friend, Yuka and I were assigned to the same mentor. She was patiently burning her glass bead.
And it was my turn ^^
Designing of our bead was done! It was placed inside the powder for the beads to cool down.
While waiting for our final product... Peeekture time!
And TADA! Our bracelets :) The meaning behind my bead was to bring about wisdom(orange with yellow dots) while the other one was to bring fortune. I think I need more wisdom :P I love the bracelet because it was DIY-ed and I had fun in the process :)
After the workshop, we walked around the homes where the indigenous people stay in and I find the architecture and design of their houses very unique.
The real deal of the place is this!!!! 石板烤肉
I didn't took any photos of the bbq meat though cos we were happily sharing the food. I bet there's no other place that can win this!!!
The meat was so tender and it gave a strong smoky after taste *slurps*
Headed to a restaurant nearby for lunch~ Here are some special dishes whipped by the chef.
Next destination: Cultural park! Here's a group photo and our group consisted of many people from different countries, so amazing that there's not much language barriers because most of them know more than 2 languages.
In the park~
Too lovely isn't it?
We had an archery session and each of us had a few shots at it. It seems easy but no it is so difficult to let go of the bow!! I think most of us are not good hunters after all haha.
The biggest pumpkin I have ever seen, and decided to try their pumpkin milk since the fruit looked so tempting hehe and I remembered that pumpkin has many health benefits too~
The trip ended off with a performance by the indigenous people coming from different parts of Taiwan. They were dressed in their traditional costumes and I enjoyed the cultural performance by them:)
It was an enriching experience for me and I am hoping that the school will arrange more activities like this for us to join ! Looking forward to the next :) Thanks for reading xx
